Wine Tasting
A few weeks ago I went to visit my mom in Tucson and together we went to a dinner/wine tasting at the Forty-Niners Golf Club. It was so much fun, and of course, tasted amazing.
The first course (my favorite food of the night) was mussels sauteed with Spanish chorizo, garlic, tomatoes, onions, white wine and butter. This was paired with Acrobat 2008 Pinot Noir. This dish was amazing! I loved the taste of the mussels with the chorizo. The dish was full of flavor and had just the right amount of spice.
The second course was grilled Panela and Roma Tomato Salad with Spring greens, pickled red onions and a creamy cucumber dressing. This was paired with Villa Maria 2009 Sauvigion Blanc. This was one of my favorite drinks of the night. The wine smelled so good…it reminded me of peaches. The salad was also good, although my mom and I had no idea what Panela was and had to google it on the smart phone. It appears to be some kind of cheese. It is very bland tasting. Overall though the salad was good.
The third course was Minnesota Wall Eyed Pike dusted with blue cornmeal and served over sweet corn risotto. This was paired with Arde’che 2007 Chardonnay. This course came to us piping hot (allowing us to savor our wine while we waited for it to cool a little) and was delicious. Unfortunately, I got lazy with my camera and forgot to photograph the food:(
The fourth course was praline encrusted lamb rack served with whipped parsnips, caramelized onions and rosemary jus. This was paired with Darice Kent 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon. The lamb was amazing and this was my favorite paring of food and wine. The lamb was sweet, the wine the perfect amount of dry. This was also my first time ever trying whipped parsnips, they are very tasty, with a hint of sweetness and remind me of mashed potatoes. Scrumptious.
Dessert was a peach and blueberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream. This was paired with Verdi Champagne. The Champagne was awesome, it had some blueberries floating in it, and was just sweet enough to be the perfect end to the meal. I wish I could have had another glass.
I highly recommend wine tasting! Its a great way to try new wine and new food and makes for a great bonding experience. Go out and try it:)
